First Use Care & Cleaning Instructions for Glass Vases and Ceramic Containers

If your glass vases or ceramic containers have been sitting in a warehouse for a while, they may accumulate dust or develop a slight dirt film. Follow these steps to safely clean and restore them to their original beauty.

Materials Needed:

  • Soft microfiber cloth
  • Soft-bristle brush (optional)
  • Mild dish soap
  • Warm water
  • White vinegar
  • Non-abrasive sponge or cloth
  • Cotton swabs (for hard-to-reach areas)
  • Towel or drying rack
  • Soft drying cloth (optional)

Glass Vases

Step 1: Pre-Rinse the Vase

  • Carefully rinse the vase with warm water to loosen any dust or dirt that has accumulated.
  • If the vase has a narrow neck, swish the water inside the vase to reach the entire interior.

Step 2: Prepare a Cleaning Solution

  • In a basin or sink, mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
  • For stubborn dirt or stains, you can add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the solution.

Step 3: Gently Clean the Vase

  • Dip a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge into the cleaning solution and gently wipe the vase's exterior and interior.
  • For narrow-neck vases or tight spots, use a soft-bristle brush or cotton swabs to reach inside.

Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly

  • Rinse the vase with warm water to remove any soap or vinegar residue.

Step 5: Dry the Vase

  • Dry the vase with a clean, soft cloth or allow it to air-dry on a drying rack.
  • If water spots appear, wipe the surface with a dry microfiber cloth for a polished finish.

Ceramic Containers

Step 1: Dust Off the Surface

  • Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a soft-bristle brush to gently dust the ceramic container, removing any surface dust or dirt.

Step 2: Prepare a Cleaning Solution

  • Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap in a bowl or sink.
  • For tougher spots, you can add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the mixture.

Step 3: Clean the Container

  • Use a non-abrasive sponge or soft cloth dipped in the cleaning solution to gently clean the ceramic surface.
  • Be sure to avoid scrubbing too hard, as some ceramics may have delicate glazes or finishes.
  • For grooves or intricate designs, use a soft-bristle brush or cotton swabs to remove dirt from crevices.

Step 4: Rinse the Container

  • Rinse the ceramic container thoroughly with clean, warm water, ensuring no soap or cleaning solution is left behind.

Step 5: Dry the Container

  • Use a clean towel to pat the ceramic container dry or allow it to air-dry.
  • To avoid water spots or streaks, gently buff the surface with a microfiber cloth once dry.

Tips for Long-Term Care:

  • Store glass vases and ceramic containers in a dust-free environment when not in use.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers, as they can damage delicate finishes.
  • For frequent use, perform regular light cleanings to prevent the buildup of dust and dirt.

By following these steps, your glass vases and ceramic containers will stay clean, polished, and ready for use.
